France Vs Austria

France Edge Past Austria in Euro 2024 Opener

Wobers Own Goal Decides Encounter

France kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Austria in Group D.

The match, which was played at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, saw Maximilian Wöber's own goal prove to be the difference between the two sides.

The win gives France an early lead in Group D, which also includes Portugal and Romania. Austria will be looking to bounce back in their next match against Romania on June 20th, while France will face Portugal on June 23rd.

In a match that was largely dominated by France, Austria had a few chances to take the lead. However, they were unable to find a way past the French defense, which was marshaled by the experienced Raphael Varane.

France's winning goal came in the 32nd minute when Kylian Mbappé's cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Wöber. The goal was a cruel blow for Austria, who had been playing well up to that point.

France continued to press for a second goal in the second half, but they were unable to break down the Austrian defense. Austria had a few chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past Hugo Lloris in the French goal.

The match ended 1-0, giving France a valuable three points in their quest to win Euro 2024. Austria will be disappointed with the result, but they will still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages.
